One of the best parts of being a business and personal bank, is we get to help peoples dreams become reality. On Thursday, September 26th Farmers & Stockmens Bank will get to see Denise Kirksey open the doors to her new downtown shop- Turquoise Maidens.

Ms. Kirksey wanted to showcase the beautiful gifts and items that are unique to New Mexico. Some items are sold as consignment, some are new, and most all are locally made.  “New Mexico has such great culture and history, I wanted to have a store that would showcase what this state has to offer,” said Ms. Kirksey.

Turquoise Maidens Store

Ms. Kirksey started out 28 years ago with a sewing business. She’s had several small businesses throughout the years, and when she decided to open a retail store, she went back to the name of her sewing business where it all began, using Turquoise Maidens as the name of her store.

Having banked with Farmers & Stockmens since she moved to Clayton in 2008, Ms. Kirksey was excited to bring her business savvy and love of New Mexico art to the local community.  “There are many benefits to shopping local. The store owners appreciate it, you’re well taken care of, and you’re supporting your community by keeping your money within your town,” said Ms. Kirksey.

When asked why she decided to open the store in Clayton, Ms. Kirksey said, “I want to give visitors that home town feeling and welcome tourists and visitors making them feel at home and wanting to return. I love Clayton and am happy to try and make our beautiful little town more appealing to everyone.”
